1 dead in fiery S. Jersey tanker crash

UPPER PITTSGROVE, NEW JERSEY - July 1, 2009

The crash happened a little before 2:00 on Wednesday morning on Route 40 just east of Commissioners Pike in Upper Pittsgrove, Salem County.

New Jersey State Police investigators say a car rammed into the side of the tanker and got lodged under the tanker as part of the big rig burst into flames.

The accident killed the driver of the car.

There's no word on the condition of the truck driver.

Investigators say a stretch of Route 40 will remain closed until about 8:00 on Wednesday morning.
