Tallmadge, about 35 miles south of Cleveland, has decided against trying to regulate costumed pitchmen for fast food, furniture and other wares.
At the urging of some council members, the city began working on a possible ordinance restricting costumes and body sign advertising. Some residents said the costumes serve as distractions to drivers near the town center.
But community development director Pat Sauner says no one wants to hurt struggling businesses, so the city dropped the idea of regulating the costumes.
