Couple brutally beaten in motel attack

WILMINGTON, Del. - July 2, 2009 - Two robbers went on the attack at the Days Inn Motel on Concord Pike in Wilmington.

A couple from Florida returns to their hotel room, but have trouble getting in. While they work the lock to their room, two men rush them, knock them to the ground, and start beating them.

Police say it was a planned attack: The suspects jammed the door before the couple arrived.

It was the woman who got the worse end of the deal.

"At one point the wife was dragged about six to eight feet on the ground, and the suspect continued to whale on her," said Cpl. Jeffrey Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police.

The attack happened outside room 138. Police say it's likely the suspects watched the couple walk across the street to a shopping center, and waited for their return from a movie at 10:25 p.m.

One of the suspects, wearing a distinctive jacket, was caught on tape again at a nearby Wawa where he used the couple's credit card.

If you recognize the suspects, you are asked to call Delaware State Police at 1-800-TIP-3333.
