She is a world champion you have probably never heard of.Regina Oliver is a Pottstown native and a member of the US Women's Lacrosse Team, a team that took gold at the World Cup Saturday in Prague.

"It's a sweet feeling. It's sinking in, but I have to remind myself everyday I'm a world champion," Oliver said.

After beating Australia, Oliver led the celebration carrying the American flag.

"This is amazing and I thought this is what the US Men's Basketball team did," Oliver said.

Oliver's journey from Pottstown to Prague actually started on the basketball court 12 years ago in middle school.

Regina's seventh grade coach encouraged her to play lacrosse. The transition was anything but a slam dunk.

"I was really bad. I didn't know how to do it. I was very frustrated because I'm very athletic and I was very good at everything at that point, except for lacrosse," Oliver said.

Her long road had its bumps and bruises. In 2005, the defender was cut from Team USA.

"I look at the medal and I think of all the things that I had to go through to get that medal," Oliver said. Now the 26-year-old, who's thinking about hanging up her stick, can relish in her achievements, knowing if she goes out it'll be on top.
