Sunburn pill

July 6, 2009 It's called Heliocare. It's an herbal pill that's high in antioxidants and claims to help protect against UV ray damage and aging.

Gail Franz, an avid golfer, started taking it and says she notices fewer skin lesions.

"I don't know if I'm being more proactive but I also feel any kind of help I can get to keep me from coming out for these little spots, the better for me."

But Heliocare should not replace sunscreen and its claims have not been evaluated by the FDA.

Dr. Andrew Pollack of the Philadelphia Institute of Dermatology says the pills can give people a false sense of security. The best way to protect your skin is limit your exposure, use sunscreen often and wear long sleeves, pants and a hat as much as possible.
