Man charged with animal shelter burglary

UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) - July 8, 2009 Twenty-year-old Craig Rugg, of Connellsville, is jailed on charges he broke into the Steve Courson Human Society of Fayette County on July 4.

Police say a witness drove Rugg to the shelter and told police they watched Rugg break in through a basement window. Rugg has been performing community service at the shelter since June 26 as part of a probation sentence.

Police say Rugg told them he tried to steal a safe, but has denied taking the puppies.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Rugg, who was arrested Tuesday.
