Dozens dead after Iraq bombings

BAGHDAD - July 9, 2009 A suicide bomber struck near a judge's house in northern Iraq killing 34 people and injuring 70 others. Officials say the attack in Tal Afar happened around 6:30 this morning.

About an hour later in Baghdad, officials say two bombs just a few hundred feet apart exploded within a minute of one another killing six people and injuring more than two dozen.

One man who was hurt in the bombings in the Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City says he heard the first blast and went to see what had happened. That's when the second bomb hidden in trash detonated. He was taken to a hospital with hand and leg injuries.

Also in central Baghdad, a roadside bomb targeting the convoy of Iraq's Central Bank governor exploded, killing a civilian and wounding five. The official wasn't hurt.
