Guilty plea in death of sleeping teen

TRENTON, N.J. - July 13, 2009 Derrick M. Jones of Clementon pleaded guilty on Monday to using a firearm for a drug trafficking crime which resulted in the boy's death, as well as other federal weapons charges.

Fourteen-year-old Barry Robertson was killed by a bullet that ripped through the outside wall of his aunt's apartment in Lindenwold. Robertson, who lived in Camden, often stayed in suburban Lindenwold so he could be safer on the weekends.

Under the a plea agreement reached with prosecutors, U.S. District Judge Joel Pisano is expected to sentence Jones to between 21 and 27 years in prison on Oct. 22.

Authorities say the shooting was the result of a drug turf war.
