Del. man appears in NY court for cop's killing

UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - July 16, 2009 A Utica judge entered a not guilty plea Wednesday on behalf of 31-year-old Robert Ward of Smyrna, Del.

Ward faces 19 charges, including second-degree murder and robbery. He's due back in court Tuesday to be assigned an attorney.

Authorities say Ward was one of the four men involved in a $1 million jewelry store robbery that ended with New Hartford Police Officer Joseph Corr's death.

One suspect was killed by federal marshals outside Philadelphia. A second man is in prison for taking part in the robbery and shooting. The case against a third suspect is pending.

Ward was returned to New York from New Jersey, where he was in prison for robbery.
