9 at birthday injured in Jersey shore fire

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) - July 20, 2009 There were 18 people sleeping in the home in the Ocean Beach section of Toms River when flames broke out early Sunday.

Authorities say six people were forced to jump onto a deck and two others jumped out of second-story window.

Twenty-one-year-old Patrick Massaroni of White Plains, N.Y., was the most seriously injured with burns to the neck, hand and face. The others were treated for smoke inhalation.

Joseph and Susan Kemka of Florham Park told police they were hosting a 21st birthday party for their daughter, Cailyn.
