Delaware State Police say a Pennsylvania man was killed when he was thrown from a minivan that was hit and went into a ditch. The crash happened on southbound Coastal Highway north of Lewes around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say as a Chevrolet Corvette changed several lanes it hit the back of a minivan, forcing it off the road. Police say 64-year-old passenger Rodney Long of Womelsdorf, Pa., was thrown from the van when it went into a ditch.

Long was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver and another passenger were flown to Christiana Hospital.

Police say the Corvette driver, 37-year-old Troy Hess of Viola, tried to attack the first officer to arrive with a club. Hess and his passenger were taken to a hospital with minor injures.

Police say charges are pending against Hess.
