Man sentenced for robbing senior in AC casino

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) - July 25, 2009 Steven Samuel, who pleaded guilty to robbery just before his trial started in April, received a six-year sentence Friday. He must serve 85 percent of his term before becoming eligible for parole.

The 46-year-old Samuel admitted attacking a coat-check employee in a service elevator at Bally's Atlantic City in March 2008 as she finished her shift. He grabbed her bag of cash from the coat room, then punched and kicked her when she would not surrender it.

He fled on foot, but was arrested nearby and the cash was recovered. The 66-year-old worker was treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries and later returned to work.
