A crash between a van and a tractor trailer left one person dead in Middletown Delaware. It happened around 9 p.m. Sunday.

State police say a van, driven by Patrick Turner, 21, of Virginia Beach, Virginia was going north on Route 1 over the Roth bridge when it began having mechanical problems.

A tractor trailer traveling behind it couldn't stop in time and rear-ended the van.

Both ended up in the southbound lanes and caught fire.

Four people inside the van were able to make it out. However a fifth person, a 21-year-old woman, was trapped inside and died. Her identity has not yet been released.

The tractor trailer driver escaped injury.

Police say Turner was driving with a suspended license.
