Trenton woman shot to death

Police were called to an apartment in the 100 block of Rossell Avenue for a shooting in progress. When the officers arrived they located a woman who had sustained an apparent fatal gunshot wound.

The victim, Cassandra Mitchell, was found on the second floor stairwell of the apartment building where she resided. Trenton Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The victim's body was removed from the scene by the Mercer County Medical Examiner's Office pending an autopsy. Based on the investigation and numerous interviews conducted, detectives were able to establish enough probable cause to issue a warrant for the arrest of Kyle Givens.

Givens is described as a black male, 34 years of age, 5'4" tall, 170 pounds. He should be considered armed and dangerous. Givens is being charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Cassandra Mitchell is survived by three children, two boys, ages 10 and 2 and an eight-year old girl. The Division of Youth and Family Services was contacted and will be assisting with providing counseling services and guidance for Cassandra's children.
