Thousands still without power in NJ

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - August 1, 2009 Crews across the state continued to clear downed trees and repair power lines and equipment damaged by the storms, which contained heavy rains and dangerous lightning.

About 6,000 Atlantic City Electric customers were still without power Saturday morning, while Jersey Central Power & Light reported about 5,000 customers out. However, all customers were expected to have service restored by Saturday night.

The storms came two days after another series of storms pummeled the northern part of the state, spawning a tornado in Sussex County and causing extensive urban street flooding in northeastern New Jersey.
