Tricia Miller will put lightweight global positioning devices on 10 of the birds to track paths as they migrate south in the winter and north in the summer. Scientists believe the eagles fly through a corridor in Appalachians where several wind farms have been built.
The study will be paid for by a $10,580 grants from the Lindbergh Foundation, named for aviator Charles Lindbergh, who made the first solo, nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean.
The Powdermill reserve is about 50 miles east of Pittsburgh and is home to a computer database that tracks the movement of 500,000 banded birds of 190 species.
