2 men arrested in deadly Wilmington burglary

WILMINGTON, Del. - August 6, 2009 The arrests stem from an incident on Monday August 3, 2009 in the 300 block of South Jackson Street. Police were called to the residence for what was reported as a medical incident. However, upon their arrival police found paramedics administering CPR to the victim.

The female victim had been shot several times.

Detectives were able to narrow their investigation to two men. The first suspect is identified as Christian Cortes, 18, from the 100 block of North Van Buren Street in Wilmington. The second suspect is 19-year-old Jaime Beltran from the 500 block of South Harrison Street in Wilmington.

Police say Cortes and Beltran were in the process of burglarizing the victim's home when she confronted them. When she refused to hand over her property she was shot several times.

Cortes and Beltran face multiple charges, including Murder 1st Degree, Conspiracy 1st Degree, Robbery 1st Degree, and Possession of a Deadly Weapon.

Both suspects were committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility without bail.
