Explosives found in NJ car

HAMMONTON, N.J. - August 6, 2009 The Hammonton residence was the site of a raid in May in which marijuana with a street value of nearly $200,000 was seized along with weapons and drug-making chemicals.

Police acting on a tip that there were potentially unstable explosives in the car went to the home around 3 p.m. Thursday. Neighbors in a two-block area were evacuated as bomb squad members assessed the threat.

Atlantic County prosecutor's spokeswoman Maddy Vitale said state police bomb squad members removed a package from the car shortly before 7 p.m. and took it to a safe area where it was detonated.

There was no immediate word on charges or arrests.
