Foreclosure approved for NJ church

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - August 12, 2009 Waring Investments of Clifton took possession of the 14-acre Shore Christian Center in Wall Township after the church failed to pay its $4.8 million mortgage.

The property includes a church, school, gymnasium and professional-quality baseball field.

Pastor G. Dewey Friedel has claimed a private donor would pay off creditors.

Waring attorney Joseph Vann told the judge the church has long discussed an impending donation or financing, but the money has never arrived.

The church was founded by Friedel and his wife in 1977. Church officials say membership declined from 1,400 in the 1990s to about 300.
