Man arrested for shooting at police

PHILADELPHIA - August 13, 2009 The incident happened on Thursday, August 6th at 1200 Hazzard Street.

Police have now announced that they arrested Donald Tillman, 24, of the 1100 block of West Silver Street for the crime.

He faces a number of charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

According to officials, Tillman was being followed by a 25th district officer for suspicious activity.

"While inside of a vacant lot inside the 1200 block of Hazzard Street, the male turned, pulled out a weapon, and fired it at least one time at the pursuing officer. The officer returned fire," Chief Inspector Scott Small of the Philadelphia Police Department said last week.

Police say the gunman then dropped his weapon, a 40 caliber Glock and then fled on foot down an alley off the 1200 block of Hazzard Street.

The officer was not struck by the gunfire.

Police did not say if Tillman was struck by the officer's gunfire.
