Students receive free backpacks

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - August 13,, 2009 Kids in Norristown were smiling brightly today, even though the school year is looming. That's because they each received brand new book bags, stuffed with everything they'll need for the school year.

The bags were absolutely free for the students, and their parents, who are thrilled that Citizens Bank expanded its "Gears for Grades" program outside of the city of Philadelphia.

"That's the best part of this program, to see the kids are really excited, energized, and enthused," Citizens Bank Senior Vice President Sylvia Bronner said.

Citizens Bank could've put their logo on the book bag, but they thought it was more important for the kids to look cool at school.

This is Citizens Bank's first time partnering with ACLAMO, a community outreach group based in Norristown.

The teachers will be thrilled with the extra supplies and these kids are just happy to have a filled schoolbag on their shoulders for a change.

The "Gear for Grades" program has been around for five years. This year, they will distribute 1,000 book bags to five communities in the Delaware Valley.
