Philadelphia fire crews had their hands full Sunday morning battling a stubborn apartment fire in the city's East Mount Airy section. The fire broke out just before 7:30 a.m. along the 600 block of East Upsal Street.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one apartment, however all residents were evacuated from the building.

One man was pulled out of the fire and taken to an area hospital. There's no word on his condition, but it does not appear to be life threatening.

Fire crews finally got the upper hand on the fire around 8:30 a.m.

There's no word on what caused the fire at this time.

According to the Red Cross, 50 residents have been displaced because of the fire. They are setting up a shelter at the Day Anna Blaklston Elementary School, located at Crittendon and Johnson Streets.

Most residents are expected to be able to move back within a day or two, once PECO determines that the utilities are safe.
