NJ teacher sentenced for fake doctor's note

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - September 1, 2009 A judge sentenced Stanley Williams to 364 days behind bars and ordered the 57-year-old to surrender his teaching certificate.

The special education teacher at New Brunswick High School missed 33 days, including 23 unpaid days, during the 2006-2007 school year. School officials asked for medical documentation to explain the missed time.

Authorities say Williams tried to justify the absences after he obtained a forged prescription blank with the name of a Newark pediatrician.

Under a plea agreement, Williams pleaded guilty to a count of uttering a forged instrument.
