Effort to set up 3rd NJ governor debate stalls

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - September 10, 2009 The League of Women Voters of New Jersey wants to sponsor a one-hour debate on Oct. 13 to be televised by ABC stations in New York and Philadelphia and on Univision.

Gov. Jon Corzine's campaign says his schedule won't allow him to participate.

And Gannett New Jersey reported Thursday that his Republican challenger, Chris Christie, would not agree to a debate pitting Christie one-on-one against independent Chris Daggett.

All three candidates have agreed to participate in two debates, scheduled for Oct. 1 and Oct. 16.

The lieutenant governor candidates will debate on Oct. 8.
