Twitter shuts down UD pres' impostor

September 16, 2009 6:33:58 AM PDT
University of Delaware officials say the social networking Web site Twitter has shut down a page created by someone impersonating the school's president.

University spokesman John Brennan says the impersonator had been posting comments under President Patrick Harker's name for some time before officials learned of it.

Brennan says the posts were off the wall, but humorous and not offensive. Still, he says the impersonator violated Twitter's terms of use by not making it clear it was a joke, including a link to the president's biography and attaching a picture.

Brennan says someone not familiar with Harker could have thought it was him, so his office asked Twitter to take the page down.
