Car bomb kills 7 near Baghdad

BAGHDAD - September 18, 2009 The bomb inside a parked car exploded in the city of Mahmoudiya about a half hour before the end of the day's fasting for Ramadan, and shoppers were in the market to buy food for the evening meal.

Mahmoudiya is about 20 miles (30 kilometers) south of Baghdad. The city has a sizable Shiite community, while the countryside around it is home to many Sunnis. Al-Qaida in Iraq was once very active in the area.

Dr. Ahmed al-Maamouri of the city's hospital gave the casualty figures from Friday's attack.
