Officer Shafer is recovering from several broken bones at Capital Health Systems Fuld in Trenton.
The accident happened around 12:00 p.m. Monday along Route 130 Southbound near Cedar Lane and the on-ramp to the New Jersey Turnpike.
Shafer was airlifted to the hospital from the scene. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
Route 130 Southbound was closed for several hours in the wake of the accident.
The exact cause of the crash is still being investigated.
