Those eligible for the seasonal flu vaccine are residents who are age 50 and older, 19 or older with a chronic medical condition, pregnant women, or adults who have close contact with children under age five, the elderly, the chronically ill, or with pregnant women.

The first doses of H1N1 influenza vaccine arrived in Philadelphia last week; but it is too early for the general public to obtain the vaccine. The majority of this first shipment of vaccine will go to a few pediatric practices that will receive only a few hundred doses each.

Over the next few weeks, additional vaccine will become available. By the end of October, the Centers for Disease Control projects that more than 52 million doses of H1N1 vaccine will be shipped to the nation's health care providers. Philadelphia is expected to receive approximately 260,000 doses of that supply.
