Driver to testify in Del. cop killing

September 23, 2009 10:06:18 AM PDT
The man police say drove the car in the chase before a Georgetown police officer's shooting death will be a witness against the man accused of pulling the trigger, according to court records. The public defender's office is asking for the appointment of an attorney to represent Christopher Reeves because it is already representing Derrick Powell, the man accused of shooting Patrolman Chad Spicer. Another officer was struck in the neck by a bullet fragment.

Twenty-two-year-old Powell of Cumberland, Md., is charged with first-degree murder and other offenses. Twenty-year-old Reeves of Lincoln, faces two counts of probation violation and other offenses.

Authorities say a third man in the car who tried to help Spicer was questioned and released.
