Delaware State Police are investigating the shooting death of a man who was trying to buy a dog. The 40-year-old man was shot shortly before 3 p.m. Friday after he and a woman drove to the 100 block of Jeffrey Drive in Magnolia. There they met people who were supposed to sell them the dog.

Police say one man got into the back seat of their car while another stood outside the passenger-side window. While they were discussing the price for the dog, the man standing outside the car pulled a gun out and demanded money from the victim.

When the woman attempted to drive away, the gunman fired. The man in the back seat got out of the car and fled. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died.
