Reward increased in hit and run on officer

WASHINGTON SQUARE - September 28, 2009

The assault happened on Saturday, September 26, 2009 around 1:50 a.m.

Officer Samuel Rivera was working the South Street detail when he approached a silver Lexus IS, partial tag HBZ, and asked the motorist to move his car, which was blocking the intersection at 4th and South Streets.

The motorist took off at a high rate of speed and Officer Rivera then pursued the vehicle.

The driver got stuck in traffic at the intersection of 3rd and Lombard Streets. Rivera was approaching the vehicle when the driver accelerated the vehicle, striking the officer.

The driver was able to flee the scene.

Officer Rivera received head and back injuries and was taken to Jefferson University Hospital for treatment.
