Stranger saves boy from fire

October 1, 2009 4:38:56 AM PDT
A young boy in the Bronx is alive thanks to a stranger who pulled him from a burning building. The man rescued the boy and carried him wrapped in a curtain down the fire escape.

The boy was unconscious because he was overcome by the smoke.

Once on the ground, he was then taken to safety by firefighters.

The Good Samaritan who helped rescued the boy is Horia Cretan.

He said he was walking on Zerega Avenue in the Parkchester section when he heard a scream. Cretan then immediately ran up the fire escape. Cretan says he did what anyone else would've done.

He also credited the boy for staying strong through the ordeal.

The young boy is expected to recover. He was listed in serious but stable condition at the hospital.
