Man opens fire on crowd in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Del. - October 4, 2009

Police responded to the area of Concord Avenue and Washington Street around 10:30 p.m. for reports of a large group of people fighting at that location.

When officers arrived, they saw a man open fire into a group of people that had gathered on the corner of 23rd and Washington Street. Reports indicate three people, one of them confirmed to be a woman, have been shot and wounded. All have been taken to Christiana Hospital. None of the injuries was life threatening.

A bullet also struck the vehicle of a Wilmington police officer on their way. The officer was not injured.

Officers tried apprehending the suspect but lost sight of him due to the amount of people that had gathered.
