Man charged in fatal NJ traffic crash

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. - October 9, 2009 It happened on Route 38 back on August 9th.

Police say Stephen Ford, 27, of Maple Shade, was driving a pickup that afternoon when he accelerated to prevent a sedan from merging in front of him.

He then lost control of the truck, struck a median, went airborne, and hit two vehicles. The driver of one of those vehicles, Jean Bernard, 63, of Mansfield, New Jersey was killed.

Also killed was the passenger in the pickup, Danielle Howey, 22, of Maple Shade.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, a box truck, was also injured.

Police say the pickup went up to 80 miles per hour before the crash. Investigators also say Ford was under the influence of marijuana at the time.
