Teachers at 4 NJ Catholic schools may strike

PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) - October 15, 2009

The contract for the Catholic Teachers Union was to expire at midnight Thursday for teachers at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, Sacred Heart High School in Vineland, Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill and Paul VI High School in Haddon Township.

Union president Bill Blumenstein says bargaining with the Camden Diocese on Wednesday was unsuccessful and a session scheduled for Thursday was called off. Key issues are pay and health benefits.

Blumenstein says union members will decide between a strike and other job actions.

Diocese spokesman Andrew Walton says the schools will remain open if there's a strike Friday.
