In the early morning hours an on duty female officer, assigned to the 35th District cell block, witnessed Officer Mebane, who was also an on duty cell block officer, in an unoccupied jail cell with a female prisoner. The female officer witnessed Mebane facing the female prisoner who was seated on a bench inside the cell room. The female officer immediately notified her supervisors.
35th District supervisors detained Mebane for investigation held the cell room as a possible crime scene and made all the proper notifications. The female prisoner was taken to a secure area.
Internal Affairs responded to the 35th District and processed the scene with the Crime Scene Unit and Mebane was taken to Internal Affairs Headquarters for investigation.
Interviews were conducted and the District Attorney's Office was consulted.
The female prisoner stated that Mebane asked her to perform oral sex on him.
Mebane was arrested for multiple charges including attempted indecent deviate sexual assault, unlawful restraint, and other related assault charges.
