Arrest in armed robbery at Dover Downs

DOVER, Del. - October 19, 2009

On Saturday October 17, 2009 at approximately 2:20 a.m. a man approached the 21-year-old victim at the north entrance of the casino. The man produced a handgun and demanded the victim's money.

The gunman then took an undisclosed amount of United States Currency, a cell phone, and the employee's Dover Downs ID badge from the victim. He fled on foot into the parking lot and then went back into the casino.

Inside the casino the gunman became involved in a verbal altercation with several others, prompting security to begin monitoring him on surveillance.

Dover Police Officers responded and the defendant was apprehended without further incident inside the Casino.

The man has been identified as 25-year-old William A. Stevens of 101 West Milby Street in Harrington, Delaware. He is charged with 1st degree Robbery, Possession of a Firearm During Commission of Felony, and Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited.

The victim was not injured and his property was recovered at the time of the arrest.
