Delegation proposing Del.'s first national park

DOVER, Del. (AP) - October 20, 2009

Sen. Tom Carper says the bipartisan plan to be introduced Tuesday would require a few million dollars from the federal government so the park could open in 2011.

Delaware is the only state without a national park.

Carper says there would be a history-themed park in New Castle and park rangers could then direct visitors to other historical sites and attractions in the area.

Carper and Sen. Ted Kaufman are co-sponsoring the Senate bill and Rep. Mike Castle is sponsoring the bill in the House.
