Big sports night to spur big volume on NJ Turnpike

A big night for area sports fans will likely cause major travel headaches Sunday for drivers on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The New York Giants are hosting the Arizona Cardinals at the Meadowlands, with a start time of 8:20 p.m.

But that's also when the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels are due to start Game 6 of the American League championship series at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y.

Turnpike spokesman Joe Orlando says officials are working to ensure that traffic moves as efficiently as possible as thousands of vehicles head toward the two arenas.

But citing the expected high volume, he's urging fans to leave as early as possible for their destination and to pay close attention to travel advisories.

"Drivers need to be very alert, and they need to be very patient," Orlando said.
