Jay-Z singing his way into the heart of New Yorkers

Jay-Z isn't trying to replace Frank Sinatra in the hearts of New York Yankee fans. But he says he's proud his new song is getting some exposure with his favorite baseball team. The rapper will be teaming up with Alicia Keys tonight to perform "Empire State Of Mind" at Yankee Stadium before tonight's World Series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies.

While the song has become a modern-day unofficial New York anthem, Jay-Z says he isn't lobbying for it to become some kind of theme song. He says the tune is "just a song I made for New York City."

He says "Empire State of Mind" is "about inspiration, it's about hope" - and he notes it gets "a monster response" even when he performs it outside the Big Apple.
