Del. teen chokes stepdad after shot fired

BEAR, Del. - November 9, 2009

New Castle County officers were called to a home on Gardwood Drive near Bear around 1:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a shooting. Paramedics were already there giving the 43-year-old man CPR before rushing him to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the man shot at his stepson and missed, then the 18-year-old put the man in a choke hold until his mother could get the gun. When the teen let go of his stepfather, police say he was unconscious.

The teen left the home after the dispute, but is now in police custody. He has not been charged but he is being interviewed.
