Then, we finish it off with a sweet treat that's guilt-free on every level! ST. AUGUSTINE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
4th & Vine Street, Philadelphia
Interesting tidbits about the beautiful St. Augustine Church:
  • Scenes from the movies "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis and "Shooter" with Mark Walhberg were filmed here!
  • When the original church opened in 1801, it was the largest Catholic Church in Philadelphia!
  • George Washington, Commodore John Barry and Stephen Girard were known contributors and supporters of the building of the first church.
  • The "sister bell" to the Liberty Bell was in the tower of the original church until the fire of 1844. Reclaimed after the fire, it was relocated to Villanova University, where it has remained in possession of the Augustinian Friars since that time.
  • The present church structure was dedicated in November 1848.
  • The Sunday evening mass (7 pm) is their most well attended!
