Man charged following train accident

NEW CASTLE CITY, Del. - November 18, 2009

The accident happened shortly after 10:00 a.m. at 7th Street and Washington Street.

Police say the driver, Jarrod Penn, 30, of New Castle, attempted to cross the tracks when the train struck the pickup on the passenger side, overturning the vehicle.

The driver was transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Penn was charged with disregarding a traffic control device. Witnesses told police they heard the train's horn and saw the warning lights flashing.

Police also say another car was stopped on the other side of the tracks at the time of the accident.

Washington Street was closed for two hours following the crash.
