Cats, dogs up for adoption

November 18, 2009 1:52:39 PM PST
Maybe now is the time to find some room in your heart, and your home, for a furry new friend.

Philadelphia animal care and control has been taking-in a record number of animals averaging 25 dogs and 50 cats every day.

Many are being surrendered because of the bad economy.

To help get the animals into new homes, the shelter at 111 West Hunting Park Avenue is extending its hours this week.

It will be open from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Adoptions fees for cats have also been reduced.
