Chain reaction crash on Blue Route

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, Pa. - November 21, 2009

According to police, the crash occurred as the SEPTA bus, operated by a 52-year-old male from Upper Darby, was traveling south in the right lane on I-476 at mile marker 9.4 in Marple Township, Delaware County.

The second vehicle, a 2003 Honda Pilot, operated by a 36-year-old female, was traveling directly in from of the bus and the third involved car, a Chevy Tahoe, operated by a 54-year-old male from KOP and the fourth vehicle, an '89 Ford L900 operated by a 62-year-old male was traveling in the center lane next the bus.

The accident occurred when the Pilot and Tahoe stopped at traffic and the bus was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the Pilot, which then pushed into the rear of the Tahoe. The Ford struck the side of the Pilot when it was pushed into the center lane.

The bus was occupied by approximately 13 people, four of which sustained minor injury and were transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital. The operator of the Pilot suffered a concussion and was transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center.
