It happened shortly after 8:15 p.m. along the southbound lanes of the parkway in Galloway Township, New Jersey.
Police say the woman driving the vehicle, 39-year-old Selina Khan, lost control and left the highway and traveled into some woods near milemarker 40.7. She was hospitalized in extremely critical condition according to police.
Her 10-year-old son was killed, but her 5-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat, was not hurt.
New Jersey State Troopers continue their investigation about why the driver lost control.
