Codes officer charged with dealing cocaine

COATESVILLE, Pa. - December 3, 2009

51-year-old John Clayton Tinson of Coatesville is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture of a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility and conspiracy.

Tinson was rehired by the city in June as a full-time code enforcement officer. Before then he had held a position in the Public Works department from October 1994 until July 2005 when he was terminated. The reason for his termination has not been released.

Over the summer of 2009 police conducted a criminal investigation leading to Tinson's arrest on November 19th. According to investigators, Tinson was observed delivering cocaine in exchange for money on several occasions - some of which occurred within 1,000 feet of a school zone.

The city has suspended Tinson without pay pending the outcome on charges.
