10-year-old becomes pen pals with President

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - December 4, 2009

"It was going through my head ever since my mom told me she was going to meet the President. One day I woke up and I said, 'I'm going to write a letter to the President,'" Allison said.

So what does a 10-year-old ask of the President of the United States? Allison and her family have been going through a tough time since the divorce, with her mother trying to get back in the workforce after 13 years.

So she wrote a simple message and sent a picture of her sisters.

"Dear President Obama, I have been thinking about you. I want to give you this picture and when you are having a hard time look at it and we are going through something three times worse. I want you to be happy. Do know that I am one of the many children that does not have it very good right now. I am praying for you. Hope you do the same."

So when it finally came time for the big meet with the President, Tina passed along the letter.

Much to Tina's surprise, President Obama wrote a letter right back then and there.

"Dear Allison, Thank you for your note. Dream big dreams. Barack Obama."

It is a note that the family says they will cherish.

"He's like the head of the head and he wrote to me, a small town girl," Allison said.
