Young child killed after TV falls on him

DELRAN, N.J. - December 7, 2009 Authorities say the 2-and-a-half-year-old was rushed from his home on Roland Avenue in Delran after being struck by a television around 6:30 p.m. in the evening.

Few details are being released but police say Burlington County Medics drove the child to a nearby ball field where he was airlifted to Cooper and pronounced dead.

No word on how this television was mounted or how large it was but this story is all too familiar.

Just last week on Water Street in West Kensington a 27-inch TV tumbled onto a 10-month-old boy who was admitted to St Christopher's Hospital for Children in critical condition.

In that case police say it appears a TV fell off an unstable table.

Police don't suspect foul play in either cases in fact experts have told Action News parents experiencing these tragedies usually have no idea ordinary household items like a television can be so dangerous. They stress anchoring electronics like televisions as they become bigger and more dangerous to children.
