Storm brings snow to northern Pa., rain elsewhere

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - December 9, 2009

The National Weather Service in State College says Elimsport in Wyoming County received 7 inches of snow but most of the state was changing over to sleet and freezing rain as temperatures warmed before daybreak.

Snow totals between 4 and 6 inches were reported in northeastern Pennsylvania, where schools were closed and delays stretched south and west toward Allentown and Harrisburg.

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh received mostly rain but dozens of schools were delayed in southwestern Pennsylvania, mostly in rural areas with higher elevations.

Temperatures are expected to climb throughout the day with the rain tapering off in the afternoon.
